Developer: Expected to be an expert level at one programming language (Java, PHP, etc.)

Programmer: Expect to be an expert at several different languages.

Programmer Analyst: Expected to be able to program applications that integrate between different systems.

Systems Analyst: Expected to Design Information Architecture to improve business information systems

Software Engineer: Expected to design core components that Developers & Programmers can use. As per US law, you need to have a professional engineering degree/license to add the title engineer.

Computer Scientist: They write code, but they do it prove something. They are not bothered about design or good practices.

How awesome is everything except your job

Seriously, Life if damn excellent, there is nothing bad at all … except the job. The job is just a soul crushing fluorescent prison. When My immediate supervisor speaks they talk shit and backstab anyone (I’m sure they talk shit about me when I’m not there, but it is all smiles to my face), and when you try to convey where things are at, they say

It just pisses me off that I’m doing a job that no one cares about, I have no carrot, I have no stick. I have nothing but persistence.

I won’t be beaten, I WILL OWN YOU, and I get things done, even when there is a wall of apathy and negativity I get past it. I will play the game and I will win.

Mind you some days (like most people) I do think about throwing in the towel and just saying stuff it; you have beaten me. But you need the shit, you need the shit to realise how awesome everything else is (except traffic that is just balls).

So FUCK YEAH screw you, I am living the dream. And I’m winning!

Norway is Winning at Being an Awesome Country

So someone posted an article (http://www.sovereignman.com/expat/why-norway-is-a-bs-argument-for-higher-taxes-8235/) on faceblag about how Norway with it’s awesome track record and no national debt was a bad thing. Then bitched that taxing companies more is bad and that Australia just needs sell off all it’s publicly owned assets and become a privatised f*!k you hell hole (well maybe not in those exact words, they just pissed me off with their stupid comments).

This was my reply

Yes Norway does have a high tax rate but you do get a lot for it. There are medical benefits, Maternity/Paternity Leave, Pension Benefits, Free education (yes University education as well) and a higher standard of living just to name a few.

The article you have posted is filled with rubbish. Just stating something doesn’t make it true, for example “Norway has created a system that makes it virtually impossible to pull ahead of your peers financially. People are excused for not working hard and squandering the opportunities they could have grabbed.” I say [Citation Needed]

and statements like

“Because of this, Norwegians have limited after-tax discretionary spending cash.” Is just total and utter crap. Wages and Salary are good, the average household net-adjusted disposable income per capita is $32,093 USD a year [http://www.oecdbetterlifeindex.org/countries/norway/]

The one thing that I agree with is “The Norwegian tax system is based on the principle that everybody should pay tax according to their means and receive services according to their needs.”

So Norway is winning,

it has a low unemployment rate 3.7% one of the world’s lowest [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_unemployment_rate]

it is a country full of smart people, (ranked 7th in the word) [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Education_Index]

it has a great health system

It is a country that looks after you when you retire

Pays you well

Live longer than most people in the world [average age of 81.9 ranked 15th] [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_life_expectancy]

So if I want to be miserable, stupid, poor and die young I’ll take his advice, and while I’m at it I’ll just buy some of the snake oil products that author Simon Black international investor and entrepreneur is peddling.

This won’t mean much to anyone but I have it (IVL2-7/5) working. Trying to understand Russian datasheets on the IVL2-7/5 VFD and piecing together bits of info from around the web and I have it working. It was like some sort of secret/puzzle that you had to pass to be accepted by other engineers. I have that same feeling I had with A Blinking Red LED. Yeah Baby!

Manually Upgrading Nexus 5 to Lollipop (LRX21O)

My Nexus 5 was a Telstra variant (KTU84Q) which wouldn’t get the OTA, and I was just sick of waiting. So this is how I side loaded the OTA update for Lollipop (LRX21O)

This is the TL:DR version

I followed this guide

I got my Nexus 5 OTA update for the Telstra version (KTU84Q to LRX21O) from
http://ausdroid.net/2014/11/13/android-lollipop-ota/
If you don’t get the KTU84Q to LRX21O version it won’t work.

As windows driver discovery is just rubbish, I manually installed the Nexus 5 windows 7 USB driver (from device manager –> update driver) which was downloaded from
http://developer.android.com/sdk/win-usb.html

I then had to reinstall the USB driver when the device went into bootloader mode. The device changes its USB hardware ID when it is in bootloader mode. the following fixed it for me.

Uploaded the image, did a reboot, all the apps upgraded and vola.

Elon Musk First Attempt at Landing a Rocket on a Boat

Elon Musk’s first attempt to land a SpaceX stage 1 rocket booster on to a boat didn’t go so well. Here is a video

The problem was the hypersonic fins (the things that steer the landing rocket) ran out of hydraulic fluid so it couldn’t manoeuvre properly.

But you know what, for a first attempt to actually hit the thing is impressive, especially with out steering for the last part.

All I can say is that Elon Musk is a visionary, he doesn’t fear failure, but learns from it so the next attempt can go better.

I am waiting for the day to see him succeed with a landing, this will be one of those events where it changes space flight forever.
